¿De dónde eres? comparte algo característico de tu lugar de origen. Where are you from? share something typical from where you are from.
I am from Chuquipata, a small village in the province of Cañar, Ecuador. Chuquipata is in the Andes, there is a big mountain Santa Marta, behind my parents’ house, and the market where I have morocho con pan (sweet corn drink with milk and bread) for breakfast. Soy de Chuquipata, un pueblo pequeño en la provincia del Cañar, Ecuador. Chuquipata está en los Andres, hay una montaña Santa Marta que está detrás de las casa de mis padres y el mercado donde voy a desayunar morocho con pan.
¿A qué te dedicas? What do you do?
I am a computer science engineer and a public health professional. Soy ingeniera en computación y professional de salud pública.
¿Qué te motiva? What inspires you?
Learn from immigrant brothers and sisters. Love. Young people. My siblings, my parents, my family. Mis sobrinos. Aprender de hermanos migrantes. El amor. Les jóvenes. Mis hermanos, mis padres, mi familia. My nephews.
¿Qué le dirías a tu yo más joven sobre donde te encuentras ahora en tu vida? What would you tell your younger self about where you are in life?
Mija, relax. The world will keep moving with you in it, and can be better if you are healthy. El mundo va a seguir girando contigo en él, será mejor si estás sana.
Aunque todo lo que has hecho en tu vida es producto de tus esfuerzos, siempre tenemos personas que nos han apoyado a las que agradecer o recordar. ¿Quiénes son esas personas para tí y por qué? Although everything you’ve accomplished in your life is the product of your efforts, there are always people to thank or think about who supported you. Who are those people for you and why?
I have an army of supporters, and I am so grateful for each of them, colleagues, friends, family…. Tengo un ejército de personas que me apoyan, y estoy enormemente agradecida por cada uno de ellos, colegas, amigos, familia…
¿Qué significa para ti la equidad en oportunidad para los Latinos? What does it mean for you equity in opportunity for Latinos?
Equity for me is the mother who can bring their children to school, and not worry whether they would be back or whether they would have food at the table. La equidad para mi es que una madre pueda llevar a los hijos a la escuela y no tenga que preocuparse si regresarán o si tendrá comida en la mesa.
¿Hay algo más que te gustaría compartir? Is there anything else you would like to share?
I am living an experience that I could have never imagined. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to lead Centro SOL and the individuals I get to work with every day in and outside the office. There is no one day I don’t learn something new. I think that is a blessing. Vivo una experiencia que no habria podido imaginar nunca en la vida. Estoy por siempre agradecida por liderar Centro SOL y las personas con las que trabajo dentro y fuera de la oficina. Aprendo algo nuevo todos los dias. Creo que eso es una bendición.
