This course is designed to provide students with a framework for understanding the factors that contribute to persistent disparities in health and health care. The Health Care Disparities Course helps students understand the social context of the patients they will care for while in medical school. It also provides students a view of Baltimore communities and elucidates the ways in which health disparities in Baltimore parallel national phenomena. The Course is led by Center core faculty, Dr. Rachel Thornton (Course Director) and SOURCE Director Ms. Mindi Levin (Associate Course Director). Several Center faculty members gave lectures in their areas of expertise during the course including Center Director, Dr. Lisa Cooper, Associate Director for the Training Core, Dr. Tanjala Purnell, and Associate Director for the Community Engagement Core, Dr. Chidinma Ibe.
