Students from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine started 2017 school-year with the Topics in Interdisciplinary Medicine: Health Care Disparities course. This course discusses issues on health disparites in Baltimore providing sources to understand and improve health and health care. The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Class of 2021 started their first year with the Topics in Interdisciplinary Medicine: Health Care Disparities course. This course is designed to provide students with a framework for understanding the factors that contribute to persistent disparities in health and health care. The Health Care Disparities Course helps students understand the social context of the patients they will care for while in medical school. It also provides students a view of Baltimore communities and elucidates the ways in which health disparities in Baltimore parallel national phenomena. The Course is led by Center core faculty, Dr. Rachel Thornton (Course Director) and SOURCE Director Ms. Mindi Levin (Associate Course Director). Several Center faculty members gave lectures in their areas of expertise during the course including Center Director, Dr. Lisa Cooper, Associate Director for the Training Core, Dr. Tanjala Purnell, and Associate Director for the Community Engagement Core, Dr. Chidinma Ibe. Centro SOL Steering Committee members, Drs. Sarah Polk, Lisa DeCamp, and Kathleen Page also lectured during the course.
