Muevetón – Move it on 2016 – another great success for health and community

On September 17, on its fourth anniversary, Muevetón  opened with a 5K fun race at Patterson Park. The event received around 300 neighbors, adults and families, who enjoyed of a free healthy breakfast, health resources, physical activity, giveaways, and more. With more than 20 providers, this annual event was presented by Friends of Patterson Park, Living Classrooms and Centro SOL, and sponsored for second consecutive year by Medicine for the Greater Good at Johns Hopkins Bayview. Steps in a Safe and Healthy Direction – Pasos – 10/3

10/2/2015 Due to the inclement weather the event has been cancelled. We appreciate your support, and look forward to next year’s event! It’s almost here, after months of planning, meeting, and training. The “Steps” race and community fair takes place on Saturday October 3, 8am-11am 4 days from now at the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus, in the parking lot of the 301 Building. Hispanic Heritage month

Hispanic Heritage Month has been taking place in the US since 1968 to celebrate culture, contributions and histories of Hispanics in the country. Read more information in the first post about this celebration at Johns Hopkins. The celebration is not over, Centro SOL ever since its foundation and earlier has been committed to highlight the contributions made by our new neighbors and to promote equity in health. By collaborating and partnering with groups within Hopkins, we are creating awareness of the growing Latino population, their assets and contributions and needs. Embajadores de Salud Yo Puedo

Español Embajadores de Salud is a lay health educational program. It has existed for several years provided to the Baltimore community in English. Thanks to the vision of a Third-year resident at Bayview and the support of Medicine to the Greater Good-MGG- in summer 2013 Embajadores de Salud started with 8 weeks-lectures in Spanish, provided by Hopkins faculty. The pilot had a great acceptance in the community in partnership with Hopkins and local organizations and community advocates.
