On September 17, on its fourth anniversary, Muevetón opened with a 5K fun race at Patterson Park. The event received around 300 neighbors, adults and families, who enjoyed of a free healthy breakfast, health resources, physical activity, giveaways, and more. With more than 20 providers, this annual event was presented by Friends of Patterson Park, Living Classrooms and Centro SOL, and sponsored for second consecutive year by Medicine for the Greater Good at Johns Hopkins Bayview. Our friend Daicy, who liked us on social media, is the winner of the raffle basket of healthy foods. This prize was raffled among all the new friends who joined the Centro SOL team during the heart month Daicy, from Ecuador, is a mother of two, she and her family live in the greektown area in front of the hospital at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Our Embajadores de Salud program is committed to educate and improve the community well-being. The program started as a series of lectures back in 2013 with a handful of people. Today, the program has several components including Yo Puedo, a wellness program based on health education and physical activity, Charlas en la comunidad, that provides lectures around health topics of interest for the Latino community, and Summer Lectures, a condensed series of lectures on health topics offered by doctors and Hopkins students, during the summer, hosted in a faith based organization. Meet Drew White (a.k.a. Andrés Blanco) Drew White is a medical student at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, currently taking a year off to pursue a Master in Public Health. He has been a great resource for the community. He leads the Hopkins students association called Bienestar which has provided TB information and vaccines in collaboration with the BCHD. He also supports the Embajadores de Salud wellness group with Centro SOL. This summer has been powerful, full of activites with and for our community. The Embajadores de Salud program was open on vacation, and will be during the Fall. See some of the things we did this summer, and join us for an exciting new season! We are thankful for the commitment our community has to their health, generous donors who provided household items and bikes, and also the wonderful volunteers who help us and share their knowledge with the community.
